It's only the middle of November yet Christmas advertising in the media is in full swing. Those large multinational chains with their infinite advertising budgets are bombarding us with repetitive saccharine feel good Christmas commercials. They want us to spend this Christmas like there's no tomorrow. Last Saturday while watching the hockey game with my family the same commercial played 9 times in less than an hour. I really feel like this advertising blitz starts earlier every year and the constant repetition becomes very irritating.
This Christmas season I will not be visiting the mall at all and I am encouraging my friends and family to do the same. Call me crazy but I just don't enjoy the crush of people and the long lineups at the check out. The customer service is usually sub-par and so are the gift selections. Actually I have not made Christmas purchases at the mall for many years as I can get everything I need and want when I shop at an independent retailer. I love visiting these shops with their interesting and unique gift selections which makes my Christmas shopping quite delightful. Shouldn't we be enjoying this happiest time of the year!
I don't understand why people put unnecessary pressure on themselves every Christmas by shopping at the mall. I am here to tell all of you to take the stress out of Christmas this year; boycott the mall and shop for all of your Christmas gifts locally. Enjoy yourself this season and support your community at the same time. Shopping can actually be fun when do it locally. Hey, maybe you will find a little something for yourself while you are at it.
Don't be brainwashed by those incessant adds on the TV tonight.
